Last updated: 19 August 2026

Swimmable (“we”, “us”) is committed to protecting your personal information and the personal information of your children. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what rights you have. It is written to meet our obligations under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Who is responsible for your information

Swimmable is the responsible party for the personal information described here.

What we collect

When you enquire. Your name, email address, phone number, the type of lesson you are interested in, the age of the swimmer, and anything you choose to write in your message.

When your child swims with us. The information we need to teach safely: your child’s name and age, relevant medical or sensory needs you choose to share with us, emergency contact details, and attendance records.

When you visit this website. Standard analytics data such as pages viewed, approximate location, device type and how you arrived. We use Google Analytics for this. It does not tell us who you are.

Children’s information

POPIA gives the personal information of children special protection. We only process a child’s information with the consent of that child’s parent or legal guardian, and only for the purpose of teaching them to swim safely.

Where you share medical, developmental or sensory information about your child, we use it solely to make lessons safe and appropriate, and we share it only with the teacher working with your child.

Photographs and video

We sometimes photograph or film lessons for use on this website and on our social media.

We will not publish an identifiable image of your child without your written permission. If you have given permission and later change your mind, tell us and we will remove the image from anything we control. Some material already shared publicly, for example a social media post that others have shared onward, may be beyond our ability to fully retrieve.

Why we use your information

  • To answer your enquiry and arrange lessons
  • To run lessons safely, including responding to a medical situation
  • To take payment and keep accurate financial records
  • To contact you about term dates, scheduling and changes that affect your booking
  • To understand how this website is used, so we can improve it

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the service providers we need to run the business: our website host, our email provider, and Google Analytics. Each processes information on our instruction. We may also share information where the law requires it, or in an emergency where someone’s safety is at risk.

Cookies and analytics

This website uses cookies to function and to measure how it is used through Google Analytics. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them may affect how parts of the site work.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry information for as long as needed to respond and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back to us. We keep lesson and financial records for as long as South African law requires. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous.

How we protect it

We take reasonable steps to keep your information secure, including restricting who can access it. No system is completely secure, but if a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, correct anything inaccurate, delete information we no longer have grounds to keep, or object to how we are using it. You may also withdraw consent, including photograph consent, at any time.

To exercise any of these, email info@swimmable.net. There is no charge and we will respond as promptly as we reasonably can.

Complaints

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, please raise it with us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa:
